Wimberley Parks and Recreation Accepts $1,000 Seed Grant From Wimberley Garden Club

The Wimberley Garden Club celebrated the power of community giving on October 14, by presenting $4,800 in grants to four local organizations at their general meeting at the Wimberley Community Center, one of which being your very own Wimberley Parks and Recreation! Bryce Burkhalter, Natural Resources and Maintenance Manager, and Erica Flocke, Parks & Recreation Director accepted a $1,000 check to fund seeds for our native prairie restoration project. This project has been in the works for about a year now on the 3-acre plot of land at Blue Hole that was once the fenced-off spray field. Many planting days have happened in that time, but this will give us the opportunity to cover even more ground, and a better chance of having our vision for this project become a reality. Projects like this, take a lot of time, persistence and money to achieve. As a small department with a limited budget and resources, Wimberley Parks cannot begin to thank Wimberley Garden Club enough for this generous gift! It is such an incredible privilege to work for a community of folks who care so deeply about conservation and supporting efforts such as this. If you are curious about our prairie restoration project, you can find more information in our blog post from June here: Wimberley Parks Awarded Bring Back the Monarchs to Texas Grant

Here is the list of other projects in the Wimberley community to receive funding from WGC:

Wimberley Village Library — $3,500 to help fund the new outdoor StoryWalk. Accepted by Beth Jordan.
EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens — $150 to support its annual Butterfly Festival. Accepted by Rebecca Stoian.
Jacob’s Well Community Garden — $150 to support the Crisis Bread Basket garden beds. Accepted by Shiila Schafer and Christina Lewis of Soil & Soul Co.
“We are delighted to support these wonderful projects that enrich our community through nature, education, conservation, and service. These grants were made possible by the success of last year’s Wimberley Garden Faire, the generosity of our community sponsors, and the dedicated leadership of Kathie Carlson and Laura Dalton, who helped make the event such a success. Thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, Garden Club members, and everyone who supported the Garden Faire. Your generosity continues to make a meaningful difference throughout the Wimberley Valley. We look forward to next year’s fundraising event, May 8, 2027, at the Wimberley Valley Winery.” – Wimberley Garden Club
Thanks again to all garden club members, sponsors and donors from the team at Wimberley Parks and Recreation!
