Movie in the Park: Celebrating Texas Rivers

If you joined us for our Movie in the Park screenings in 2022 and 2023, you may remember the original Deep in the Heart. The film gave us an incredible look at the wildlife and landscapes that make Texas so special, and we’re excited to continue that journey with its highly anticipated sequel.
This time, the story takes us to one of Texas’ most essential natural resources: water.
A Story About the Rivers That Connect Us
Deep in the Heart 2: Texas Rivers explores the vital role waterways play throughout our state, from springs and rivers to bays and estuaries. As our communities continue to grow, so does the importance of understanding, appreciating, and protecting the natural resources that sustain them.
The film follows two interconnected stories: how Texans have used water over time, from Native peoples to modern times, and the journey of water itself as it flows from springs through rivers and ultimately into our bays and estuaries.
Filmmaker Ben Masters brings his passion for storytelling and conservation to the project, highlighting the beauty and importance of the waterways in his home state. In an interview with Texas Highways, Masters encourages Texans to spend as much time on the river as they can, pointing to the incredible experiences and wonders these waterways offer.
That message feels especially meaningful as we watch our own community and neighboring areas continue to grow. Our rivers and springs are more than beautiful places to visit; they are essential resources that support wildlife, communities, recreation, and life across Texas.
A Love Letter to Texas Water
According to Fin and Fur Films, Deep in the Heart 2: Texas Rivers is a love letter to Texas rivers and a wake-up call about their future.
The sequel follows the success of the original 2022 documentary, which celebrated the incredible diversity of Texas wildlife. This time, the filmmakers invite audiences to see our waterways in a whole new way.
We’re excited to gather our community under the stars for an evening of film, connection, and appreciation for the natural treasures right here in Texas and right alongside Cypress Creek.
This event is completely free! It’s also the perfect way to kick off film festival weekend. If you’re interested in attending the rest of the film festival, be sure to purchase your tickets as soon as possible, as tickets are limited.
