Ending Blue Hole’s 2024 Swim Season: Off-Season Events and More!

This year’s swim season is coming to a close! As we finish out the summer, Blue Hole Regional Park’s swim hours will be slowing down to weekends only in September. The final day of the 2024 season will be September 29th. If you’d like to swim at the park before access is closed for the year, tickets can be purchased here!

With the public season ending, the Swim Lawn will now be available to rent throughout the rest of the year! Though the swimming hole will be closed to the public, all Swim Lawn rentals include swim access, conditions permitting. No lifeguards are provided for private rentals, so swimming is at your own risk.

Having a dedicated off-season gives the natural area the time it needs to recover from the summer’s heavy traffic. During these months, the swim lawn will again be open to the public. Swim access is prohibited, but park visitors will be free to walk along the creek, have picnics, and admire Blue Hole’s clear waters.

In recent years, dry weather has unfortunately forced us to close the swimming hole early in the summer. This year, we are pleased to report that the water has remained healthy and deep all season! If you’d like to help preserve the park’s natural beauty, we’re always looking for volunteers to help our maintenance team make Blue Hole and our other parks flourish. Our Wednesday Volunteer Workday program is a great entry point for anyone looking to get involved!

Although Blue Hole is best known for its spring-fed swimming hole, the park will also be host to many exciting events in the off-season! Here are a few of the activities you can look forward to in 2024:

  • Star Wars Movie in the Park, September 21st — Watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens, build your own lightsaber, and play themed games! Moviegoers are encouraged to dress up for this event.
  • Star Party, October 5th — Gaze at the stars in the beautiful Hill Country sky! This event features presentations by the Wimberley Dark Sky Committee, as well as additional aid from the Texas State University Astronomy Club.
  • Howl at the Moon Dance Party, October 17th — This annual dance party under the moonlight celebrates the night sky with a rousing howl at the moon!
  • BOO! Hole Halloween, October 19th — This spooky family-friendly evening takes over Blue Hole for one of our biggest events of the year! Activities include a trick-or-treat trail, carnival games, costume contest, movie viewing, and the thrilling Haunted Trail!
  • Creekside Campout, November 16th – 17th — An exclusive weekend of camping at Blue Hole, featuring a campfire, a guided night hike, and other activities!
