Stepping Forward at Old Baldy!

LCRA Workday in Wimberley

On April 12, 2024, Wimberley Parks and Recreation joined forces with the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) for their annual Steps Forward Day—a statewide volunteer initiative dedicated to enhancing communities through hands-on service.

Our local project focused on painting the handrails at Old Baldy Park, one of Wimberley’s most iconic landmarks. Volunteers from LCRA and our team came together under sunny skies, brushes in hand, to give the railings a much-needed refresh. With over 200 stone steps leading to sweeping Hill Country views, those handrails see a lot of love—and now, they look the part!

This simple improvement makes a big difference in both safety and aesthetics for the many residents and visitors who climb Old Baldy each year. We’re grateful to the LCRA volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to help preserve this special spot.

Across Texas, Steps Forward Day mobilized more than 700 LCRA employees on 36 projects in a single day—demonstrating the powerful impact of community partnership.

We’re proud to be part of that story and look forward to continuing this tradition of service.
