LCRA Steps Forward Day

In a place like Wimberley, it doesn’t take much to make a difference. Sometimes it’s not a big project or a major investment… it’s the small, intentional improvements that make a space feel cared for. Fresh paint. Clean edges. The kind of details most people don’t notice right away, but would miss if they were gone. That’s exactly what Steps Forward Day is all about.

Each year, Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) hosts Steps Forward Day, an annual day of service dedicated to giving back to the communities they serve.

Across Texas, from West Texas to the Gulf Coast, hundreds of LCRA employees step away from their desks and into local communities to take on hands-on projects that matter.

That can look like:

  • Cleaning and improving parks
  • Upgrading playgrounds
  • Painting community buildings and equipment
  • Enhancing landscaping with new plants and mulch

Since the program began, they’ve completed more than 350 community projects, each one making a tangible difference in the places people gather every day.

This year, on April 10, LCRA volunteers will be right here in Wimberley focusing their efforts on the Wimberley Community Center. Their project: painting parking stops. It might sound simple, but it’s one of those improvements that instantly makes a space feel more maintained, more welcoming, and safer for everyone who uses it. And at a place like the Community Center, where so many events, programs, and daily activities happen, that kind of care goes a long way.

Parks and community spaces don’t stay great on their own. They take consistent attention, small upgrades, and people who are willing to show up and do the work, even when it’s not glamorous. Steps Forward Day is a reminder that strong communities are built through partnerships. When organizations like LCRA invest their time and energy locally, it helps keep places like Wimberley special.

We’re grateful to LCRA and their employees for choosing to spend their day giving back here. If you happen to stop by the Community Center on April 10, you’ll see that work in action, and maybe notice a few small details that make the space feel just a little bit better.
