Improving Trail Wayfinding at Blue Hole Regional Park

Blue Hole Regional Park is one of Wimberley’s most visited outdoor spaces, welcoming families, hikers, swimmers, and visitors from around the world. As the park has grown over the years, so has the trail system, and with that growth comes the need for clearer, more consistent wayfinding.

This winter, the Parks & Recreation Department will begin installing a new trail wayfinding signage system designed to make Blue Hole easier to explore and more accessible for all visitors. The project was unanimously approved by both the Parks Board and City Council and reflects long-standing feedback from park users and staff.

The new system introduces a unified approach to trail identification using color-coded and shape-coded markers. This dual system improves readability and accessibility, helping visitors of all ages and abilities navigate the park more confidently.

Key components of the project include:

  • 46 routed cedar trail markers placed at major intersections and access points

  • Consistent colors and symbols assigned to each trail

  • Replacement of outdated or inconsistent signage

  • An updated trail map that mirrors the new wayfinding system

All signage will be manufactured and installed in-house by Parks staff, using durable cedar materials that align with the natural character of the park.

Installation will take place throughout the winter and into the spring and summer. Updated trail maps will be available online and onsite once installation is complete.

These improvements are part of the department’s ongoing commitment to maintaining high-quality, accessible park spaces while preserving the natural experience that makes Blue Hole special.
