Help Shape the Future: Survey Open for Blue Hole Nature Center
The City of Wimberley and Hays County Parks & Recreation Department have embarked on an exciting project: the Blue Hole Nature Center, a nature-education and community hub nestled in the heart of Blue Hole Regional Park. Now, your input is needed to help bring this vision to life.

What is the Blue Hole Nature Center?
-
It’s a planned facility designed to be sustainable, educational, and deeply connected with the Texas Hill Country natural world.
-
As a One Water facility, it will incorporate innovative water management strategies: rainwater collection, reclamation, wetland restoration, etc.
-
The Nature Center will expand on the success of Wimberley’s Nature Camp program, which already engages over 400 youth each summer.
What Has Been Funded / What Stage Are We In?
-
A $3 million contribution from the Hays County Parks and Open Space Bond has been awarded to support the Nature Center.
-
The center is currently in the planning and concept phase. Draft concept plans exist, but community feedback will help refine, adjust, or even replace some elements to better meet the community’s needs.
Why Your Feedback Matters
This isn’t just another facility – it’s a chance for Wimberley and Hays County to set a standard in environmental education, sustainability, and community involvement. Your feedback will help ensure that:
-
Programming (what happens inside) reflects what residents, youth, schools, and families truly want and need;
-
Outdoor spaces (wetlands, prairie, adventure play) are designed in ways that are usable, safe, engaging, and in harmony with the land;
-
Designs for water use, green infrastructure, long-term maintenance, and sustainability integrate community values;
-
Accessibility, event rental, and flexible use are part of the plan so the center can serve multiple purposes.

What’s Next
As feedback comes in, the concept plan will be refined. Then the design process, permitting, fundraising, and construction phases will follow, with the goal of yielding a facility that serves the community for generations. If you’re part of this community, now is the moment to make your voice heard. Whether you walk Blue Hole trails, have kids in Nature Camp, or simply love the natural beauty of the Hill Country, your ideas will shape what the Blue Hole Nature Center becomes.
Let’s build something we all can be proud of.
