Blue Hole is Back—Clearer, Busier, and More Beautiful Than Ever

IMG_6169

After a string of heavy summer rains in Wimberley, the sun is finally shining again, and Blue Hole Regional Park is officially back open! If you’ve been waiting for the perfect day to swim, this is your sign.

We were shut down for six days due to low water clarity after several rounds of storms passed through the area. The rains were strong and steady and the storms were wild. While the much-needed moisture was good for the land and aquifer, it made swimming unsafe for quite some time. At Blue Hole, safety is our first priority, and when the water gets too stirred up, we hold off on reopening until it’s clear again. That meant pausing swimming while the creek calmed and the silt settled. It wasn’t easy turning people away. We know how important this place is to families, visitors, and locals alike, but protecting the experience also means knowing when to wait.

Trust us – you don’t want to swim in this. (Picture taken 06/12/2025)

Now, we’re happy to say the wait is over and the water has never looked better!

The spring-fed water is shining in its signature blue-green hue, framed by tall bald cypress trees. The rain may have paused the fun, but it also brought a renewed clarity to the park – literally and figuratively. There’s something extra special about coming back after a break. You notice more. The way the light dances across the surface of the creek. The sound of cicadas in the afternoon heat. The laughter of kids echoing down the lawn. It was eerie to spend 6 days peak summer without these sounds. Since reopening, every single swim day has completely sold out. The energy in the park is electric. Families camped out under shady trees, towels draped over the grass, coolers packed for long afternoons, and the docks full of eager swimmers soaking up the sunshine. It feels like summer again, the way it’s supposed to.

If you’re planning to visit soon, this is your friendly nudge: book your swim passes now. With the heat rising and word getting out that we’re open again, reservations are going fast. Blue Hole may be one of Texas’ most iconic swimming holes, but it’s also one of the most in-demand (for good reason).

We’re here, we’re open, and we’re ready to welcome you back. See you at the hole!

Water is flowing clear again!
