Celebrating the Spirit of Gratitude

Wimberley’s 34th Annual Community Dinner

As the holiday season approaches, one of the most cherished traditions in Wimberley is fast approaching: the 34th Annual Wimberley Community Dinner. This heartwarming event is a beautiful celebration of the community’s generosity, kindness, and the spirit of togetherness. Every year, neighbors come together to cook, serve, and enjoy a festive Thanksgiving meal as a way to express gratitude for all we have.

A Legacy of Giving
For over three decades, the Wimberley Community Dinner has been organized by David Lewis, a beloved figure in the community. David has devoted countless hours to ensuring that this tradition remains strong, with the help of a dedicated team of volunteers. This year, he is joined by Chris and Claire Sharp, who are working alongside him to ensure the continuity of this beautiful tradition for years to come.

The Heartwarming Preparations
The day before Thanksgiving, volunteers gather at Johnson Hall at 3:00 PM to begin decorating the space, transforming it into a festive gathering place where neighbors can come together and feel the warmth of the season. The next morning, cooks arrive bright and early at 6:00 AM to start preparing the delicious feast that will be served. By 10:00 AM, the rest of the volunteers join in, helping to set up and serve the meal to the community. It’s an all-hands-on-deck effort that truly showcases the strength of our town’s volunteer spirit.

A Meal to Remember
The menu for the day includes all the traditional favorites: succulent turkey (smoked by Kelly’s BBQ), homemade cornbread dressing, creamy green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, savory gravy, and a variety of mouthwatering desserts. It’s a meal that brings comfort and joy, made even more special by the hands that prepare it with love and care.

A Growing Family
Over the years, the Wimberley Community Dinner has become more than just a meal – it’s a symbol of the strength and compassion of our community. What started as a small gathering has grown into an event where hundreds of people come together to share food and fellowship. Whether you’re a long-time Wimberley resident or a newcomer, there’s a place for everyone at the table.

Serving Those Who Can’t Attend
For those unable to join us in person, we offer food delivery to ensure that no one is left out. We want to make sure that every member of our community is able to enjoy the holiday, no matter their circumstances. Delivery sign up forms can be found on the Wimberley Community Thanksgiving Dinner event Facebook page, or by reaching out to Dave Lewis.

As we gather around the table this Thanksgiving, let’s take a moment to reflect on all the things we have to be grateful for: our health, our families, and the incredible sense of community that makes Wimberley so special. We have much to be thankful for, and the Wimberley Community Dinner is a beautiful reminder of how we can come together to share in those blessings. We can’t wait to see you there!

Thank You, Wimberley – Happy Thanksgiving!
